Faced with an epidemic of sweeping lethality, Ohio seems committed to a cure by a thousand Band-Aids.
In his State of the State address Tuesday night, Gov. John Kasich declared drug addiction “a common enemy” and said he will request up to $20 million to help further research and treatment breakthroughs relating to substance abuse.
This latest idea is a noble one. So were the restrictions on painkiller prescriptions that he unveiled at a news conference last week.
Both, however, lack a sense of true urgency.
