1. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Opioid Safety Initiative
The VA system credentials pharmacists to prescribe medications, including opioids and substance abuse treatment medications.
For the last two decades, VA has adapted to the increased role medications play by expanding the authority of its pharmacist practitioners to prescribe medications and manage chronic disease in an enhanced role as clinical pharmacy specialists.
