Fatal overdoses in Ohio rose to a record 4,854 in 2017, up 20 percent from the previous year and the eighth year in a row that drug deaths increased, according to state data.
But Gov. John Kasich said at a Statehouse news conference Thursday that he sees encouraging signs among those grim statistics, though he added that there may be little state officials can do to combat the use of the deadly drug fentanyl that is largely responsible for the epidemic.
